Drill Competition – 26/09/2009
1st Sibu Company annual drill competition was held on 26 September 2009 at SMK Methodist. This year we have 3 groups from 2nd years boys and 4 groups from recruits. Before the competition, a uniform inspection were carried out by Lt. Linda, Lt. Teo, Lt Jonny, Lt Constantine, W/o Lau Shiew Ping and W/o David Sii. After uniform inspection, the groups will proceed to the competition. Four judges were selected for the competition and they were Capt. Joesph Tin, Lt. Tonny Hii, Lt. Hu Wei Ung & W/o Toh Yik Kiet. The marking of the drill were divided into drill movements (60%), command’s sequence (20%) and uniform (20%). A best commander will also be selected in the end.
The following were the summarized feedback made by judges.
- It’s obvious that a lot of boys did not have enough drill practice.
- All the members fail to perform 90 degree legs movement.
- Commander didn’t prepare well enough especially in reporting to officer in charge.
- Some of the members are very nervous including commanders.
- Lack of spirit and smartness in drill.
- Boys always put their hand down before the officer when saluting.
- Commanders did not memorize well with their command’s sequence. It caused a lot of confusion.
- Lack of confidence .
- Too many ’semula’ command being called out.
To sum it all, it is obvious that all the boys did not have enough practice in their drill. Captain Joseph Tin gave a simple advice to all the boys. The only way improve the drill is to practice and do more drill. There is no shortcut to it.
After the competition, we had a drill down where participants will be eliminated upon making a mistake and the last one remain in the drill down will emerge as the champion. Unfortunately this year we didn’t have any champion. However it is a good sign to see that all the boys were so eager to participate in the drill down.
In conclusion, there are plenty of rooms for improvement. More time and efforts need to spend in practicing drill.

We would like to extend our heartiest congratulation to our former Sgt Hu Wei Kiet on his marriage with Miss Yaw Sheng Ying. It is God’s blessing that both of them met each other in Cambodia’s missionary trip and today God has put them together as husband and wive. For your info, Wei Kiet is also the younger brother of Lt Hu Wei Ung. We would like to thank Wei Kiet for his past service in BB ministry especially as the longest serving NCO council’s chairman. May God’s love continue to be with this new couple abundantly and walk through with them in their future path.
