The Story of The Boys’ Brigade in China
We all know very well with the history of The Boys Brigade in Malaysia. But how much do we know about BB in China. The only fact we know is that BB work began in South China in Swatow in the early 1900s and 1st Swatow Company is the first BB company in Asia.
Below is a copy of The Story of The Boys’ Brigade in China called A Record of Heroism. We encouraged each reader to spend time reading it and hopefully it will inspire each of you about the BB work around the world. We pray that one day God will open the door to China so that BB work can be extend there.

REACHOUT – Youth For Charity
This year from June to December, REACHOUT – Youth For Charity will mobilize BB members from Sarawak in a concerted effort to raise fund for the National Kidney Foundation, Kuching Branch to aid their objective of helping poor Malaysian suffering from kidney failure and ailments. A portion of the collection will be channeled back to BB for youth development.
What is “REACHOUT – Youth For CHarity”
REACHOUT – Youth For Charity is an initiative by The Boys’ Brigade of Malaysia to encourage young people and youth organization to be involved in social and charitable work. Through this initiative, The Boys’ Brigade of Malaysia seeks to expose young people to the hardship of people less fortunate than them, that they may learn to appreciate life and be grateful for what they have. We want to nurture young people to be more caring and sensitive to the needs of others; to REACHOUT – to help and do more in our quest to foster a caring Malaysian society.

BB Sarawak Central Region Founders’ Day Celebration
On 3rd October 2009, all 10 BB companies in Sibu met together at SIB Hosanna church in conjunction with the Founders’ day celebration. This year, the Founders’ day were hosted by 7th Sibu Company & 9th Sibu Company. In total, there were about 800 BB members attended the celebration.
At 2:00pm, the event start with the marching of the color party. Then we had a singspiration followed by a choir presentation by 7th Sibu Company. Then Pastor Timothy’ shared the words of God with us. In his sermon, he had shared 3 points.
- We need to see the needs of people. Often, we know the problem that exists among youth but we do not came up with a solution to overcome the problem.
- BB is a body of organisation that consists of officers, boys & girls. We should act as one body like the body of Christ.
- We need to train BB boys & girls to glorify and serve our God continuously.
After the sharing we had a “Poco-poco” dance performance by 4 girls from 9th Sibu Company. Then we had a prize giving for Central region basketball competition. We also had the priviledge to hear a sharing on the development of BB in Sarawak by Lt. Hu wei Ung. We praise God that currently we had a Sarawak state full time officer and our own depot located at MY centre. In 2011, BB in Sarawak will also be celebrating 50th anniversary. Also we had a vision to purchase one shop for BB Sarawak.
This year, we included games into the programme. However, leading a game for 800++ members is not an easy job. We would like to thank one of our brother-in-Christ for leading the game throughout the whole afternoon. We believe that every members did enjoy their afternoon.
About 5pm, the games ended and we closed our Founders’ day celebration with a closing prayer by Pastor Timothy followed by Color Party marching off. We give thanks to God for allowing our Founder, Sir William Alexander Smith seeing the needs of boys and formation of The Boys’ Brigade back in 1883. Till today, we have BB in nearly all around the world and expansion is still ongoing. We pray that God will continue to bless The Boys’ Brigade and use this organisation to advance the Kingdom of God and spreading the Good news.
Lord, Bless The Boys’ Brigade.
